The PG-rated animated adventure about a shipwrecked robot outperformed Francis Ford Coppola’s utopian sci-fi epic Megalopolis, which also opened this weekend, with an underwhelming take of only $4 million.

Coppola, the director of all-timers including "The Godfather' and 'Apocalypse Now,' put $120 million of his own money into the ambitious oddity of a project.
