It’s Monday. Take a look at our top stories with KELOLAND On The GO. The South Dakota Highway Patrol has announced sobriety checkpoints will be conducted in 14 different counties during the month of October.

The National Weather Service has issued a Red Flag Warning for eastern North Dakota, and west-central and northwest Minnesota until 9 p.m. Monday. Dry conditions combined with strong wind prompted the warning.

A Red Flag Warning covers most of western and central South Dakota Sunday. In a post on Facebook, the South Dakota Department of Public Saftey issued a Red Flag Warning spanning from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.

A wind advisory and a Red Flag Warning are both in effect in central South Dakota today (Sept. 30, 2024). National Weather Service Meteorologist Brian Cromwell says a cold front is moving toward us, kicking up the blustery winds. Currently, the Wind Advisory is set to expire at 4pm CT and the Red Flag Warning ends at 8pm CT.

Though rain fell on three separate days in September, it barely wetted the ground. Just .06 inches have fallen this month in the Twin Cities, making it the driest September ever. The last time it was this dry in September was when .24 inches of precipitation fell in 2022.

Dry and windy weather will top the headlines today as a strong cold front marches eastward during the day. A Red Flag Warning for critical fire danger is in effect for much of KELOLAND. Strong winds and low humidity are big factors to consider.

With well below average rainfall this month causing dry conditions, parts of northwest Iowa are under a red flag warning for the risk of fire.
