San Francisco’s third annual Portola Music Festival offered many highlights, but perhaps none as unexpectedly poignant as a 20-year-old song performed on its smallest stage. On the first night of the festival on Saturday,

Portola returns to Pier 80 for its third consecutive year of bringing some of the best in dance music to San Francisco.

For the last two years, Portola Music Festival has presented electronic dance music’s biggest acts along San Francisco’s waterfront for tens of thousands of fans. It has also irritated many of its neighbors in the city and the East Bay whose homes have been literally shaken by the outdoor event’s vibrations.

The Portola Music Festival is back at Pier 80 in San Francisco this weekend with a line-up including such popular acts as Rüfüs Du Sol and Disclosure. Some residents as far away as Alameda are bracing for the noise.
