The Supreme Court on Monday reprimanded Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu for making public allegations over the use of adulterated ghee for the preparation of laddus offered as prasadam at the Tirumala Tirupati Temple.

Supreme Court was hearing a batch of pleas concerning allegations of animal fat being found in ghee used to prepare prasadam at the Andhra Pradesh temple.

The court questioned Chief Minister Naidu's decision to make public statements while the matter was still under investigation. The bench told the state government's lawyer that lab tests revealed the ghee tested was already rejected.

Naidu made public lab reports that alleged the laddus offered to the deity before being distributed daily among Tirupati temple devotees were contaminated with animal and vegetable fat.

The Supreme Court urged keeping religion out of politics while seeking evidence on claims of contaminated ghee in Tirupati laddoos.

"It is matter of faith. If contaminated ghee was used, its unacceptable," the Solicitor General Tushar Mehta told a bench of Justices BR Gavai and KV Viswanathan.
