With heavy rains causing severe flooding in Bihar, a video shows people fleeing a bridge as the Kosi river swells.

Flood situation in several parts of Bihar worsened on Monday (September 30, 2024) as embankments of Kosi river in Darbhanga district and Bagmati river in Sitamarhi were breached, officials said. The Kosi river was in spate and breached its embankment near Kartarpur block,

On Sunday, a breach occurred in the embankment of Bagmati River at Madhkaul village. MoS for Home Affairs Nityanand Rai said that the flood situation in Bihar is serious.

The Kosi River, in spate, breached its embankment near Kartarpur block, inundating the villages of Kirtarpur and Ghanshyampur in Darbhanga late Sunday night. In Sitamarhi district, seepage was reported in the embankment of the Bagmati River in the Runni Saidpur block.

The flood situation in Bihar has worsened as embankments of the Kosi and Bagmati rivers were breached, resulting in inundation of multiple villages. The state is working on a war footing with additional rescue teams being deployed.

The Bihar water resources and disaster management departments have been working on a war footing to ensure rescuing people from the flood-affected areas.
